About Tree Makers

Tree Makers is the studio and practice of bonsai designer Hugh Grant located on the Central Coast of NSW Australia. Here we specialise in Australian Native trees and plants.

Tree Making is an inquiry into the Australian landscape. Focusing on sound well constructed designs, our work explores forms abstracted from nature, informed by living structures that are quintessentially Australian both culturally and naturally. Our hope is to create a bridge to what might be unaccessible to some or misunderstood within the unique environment that is Australia.

Tree makers is a professional garden and creative studio. Here we are at the forefront of deciphering and creating technique for many new Australian native species as well as informing how to best understand species in the Australian climate and ecosystem. In our nursery we develop a new age of bonsai material primarily sources as native yamadori (landscape sources trees) and make these available to our customers. We offer a range of trees from Raw design ready material to trees in production and Finished highly executed Bonsai specimens. At our studio we teach privately, hold seminars and workshops and conduct information rich courses to inform and educate the hungry practitioner or budding artist. We teach externally all over the country conducting demonstrations, workshops and classes and lectures and seminars on the theory and practice of the art form that is Tree Making.

Our Studio focuses on making trees that are a representation of our ethos and the experiences had in the landscape. We function on a collaborative basis and aim to fascinate a studio practice that encompasses creativity and exploration of the expanding practice of Bonsai. Visit our Education page and Services page to see our delivery of skills and information to enable you to further your practice.
